  Behind the scene
Photoshoot SS2020

For this new collection, we are taking you backstage of our photoshoot in Puglia, beyond its olive groves, agricultural estates and picturesque towns, sometimes things dont happen exactly as planned !

The end of the school year is coming to a close and  for a few months I’ve been working on  the photoshoot for our next collection. I’d been waiting to discover the Puglia region in the South of Italy for some time with its palette of deep and earthy tones, including a sun kissed Grenada red, a deep Bari green reminiscent ofAlmafi’s translucent waters, the Fushia pink of bougainvilleas, the dark Blueberry blue of wild berries, the light Ash blue of Ostuni’s lime wash walls. Everything was a source of inspiration in this agricultural region situated off the beaten tracks between the Adriatic and the Valle d’Itria region.

Things were set and my beloved photographer Emma and myself were to go on a 2 day adventure starting with Ostuni – the white city, then Alberobello in the morning to avoid the crowds, finishing with a Masseria where we could freshen up near a pool. After preparing the outfits for our little models, writing down the shoe size for each of them, checking that we packed every outfit along with the accessories, I closed the suitcase and checkin for the flight at the end of the following day.

Until then, everything was going according to plan… and yet as soon as we landed in Brindisi, misericordia ! I realized as I was waiting in line for the rental car that I forgot my driver’s license at home in another bag ! I call my husband in panic as my phone indicated only 2% of battery left and one of our kids picks up too excited to tell me about his day. I finally receive a photo of my drivers liscence hoping that the Eurocar agent will feel some kind onf empathy (not!). After several long minutes trying to explain how much effort will have gone to waist to get here and shed a tear to soften him up, he finally accepts to change the name on the booking to Emma’s, who was scheduled to land the following morning. With the last few minutes of battery left, I managed to call and ask her to take her driver liscence and finally breathed out as we hung up.

All by myself now, I take out a pen to write down the directions from our Airbnb host to reach destination 30km from there, without forgetting the description of where the keys are hidden (praying they are where they are supposed to be when I get there). I jump on a bus to the nearest train station in hopes to find a Brindisi-Ostuni train past 8pm. I wait… then finally a train stops. I get on carrying my suitcase full of swimsuits, straw hats and fabric flowers and take a seat near the doors, counting every station the train stops. When we finally arrive to Ostuni station 25min later, there isn’t a single soul. All of a sudden, I spot a couple who got off the same train as I and ask them the best way to Ostuni. They look with much surprise and let me know that the road to Ostuni at night is too dangerous and long by foot and kindly offer to give me a lift to the fortified town. I thus end up at the back of these strangers car, blessing their good soul for saving my photoshoot…

I hope you will like this collection as much as I enjoyed creating (and shooting) it. If you want to see more from our photoshoot, we made a little video available on our homepage here !

Enjoy !
