How to choose your child's swimsuit?

An essential part of a summer wardrobe, swimsuits comes in many shapes and colors. Canopea looked into the criteria for choosing your child's swimsuit.

Girls' swimsuits: two-piece or one-piece?

It all depends on how your little one will be using it. The one-piece swimsuit is well suited for sports, especially in the pool, as it provides great freedom of movement. It must be well adjusted to avoid the straps from slipping, but not so tight that the elastics irritate the skin. Be sure to choose a size that is well adapted to your child's morphology, neither too big nor too small.

For splashing around and enjoying the weather, it's the aesthetic element that counts the most. Two pieces and style are the way to go. It's all in the details: ruffles, bows, belts, tassels, frills, manufacturers do their best to meet the wishes of little girls. For the top, strapless, bandeau or triangle. For the bottom, bikini bottoms, skirt, shorts, the choice is yours.

What color to choose?

Solid suits come in a variety of colors to highlight all skin tones. Warm colors and bright tones for darker skin tones, cool colors and soft pastels for lighter skin tones. Unless your child prefers prints, polka dots, stripes, Liberty, floral, geometric or jungle patterns..., it's all a matter of taste.

The swimsuit, an essential element of a summer wardrobe

For little girls, a swimsuit is much more than a simple piece of clothing, it is a fashion accessory that allows them to express their personality. Swimsuits are so important to them that you can't buy them without asking them. Little girls love to be like mom, and manufacturers have understood this by creating matching models for moms and daughters, creating unique mother-daughter looks.

How to choose a boy's swimsuit?

For boys, the choice will probably be easier. You'll find comfortable speedos that are a bit out of fashion. The current trend favors models with a little more coverage and probably also more fashionable. Like dad, boys like swim shorts, boxers and briefs. Swim shorts and boxers are more for leisure, while briefs are more suitable for sports. It should also be noted that swimming pools and water parks often require boys to wear briefs or boxers. It is therefore important to check this before buying your little one's swimsuit.

The size of the swimsuit, an important factor

The size is a very important factor when buying a swimsuit for a child, whether for a girl or a boy. Moms sometimes tend to choose a little big thinking that it will allow their toddler to wear it a little longer. This is actually not the best idea, as kids grow up fast and will probably have to buy a new suit the following year. In this case, it is better to choose the proper size for the child, i.e. the child's usual size, no more, no less (unless otherwise indicated by the manufacturer). Too big, the swimsuit could be uncomfortable and hinder the child's movements. If it is too small, it could cause irritation, especially around the elastics.

Choosing a baby swimsuit

Remember that babies under the age of one should not be exposed to the sun. For any outing in the sun, they should wear a hat and a T-shirt. Sun protective suits protect your baby from the sun's harmful effects. They are similar to rompers, with long or short sleeves, which protect the back and shoulders. You can also choose a set composed of bottoms and a sun protective rashtop.

For proper protection, it is best to choose a UPF 50+ sun protective swimsuit, filtering out 98% of UV rays, in addition to applying SPF 50+ sunscreen to unprotected areas of the body. The range of sun protective clothing for babies has grown considerably. They come in a variety of styles and flattering colors to offer both safety and style.

Swimsuit for baby swimmers

For baby swimmers who are not yet potty trained, diaper swimsuits are much like regular swimsuits. The only difference is the waterproof diaper inside. Unlike disposable diapers, these ones are washable and reusable. More cost-effective than disposable diapers, these swimsuits are suitable for babies who are frequently in the water. They eliminate the need to clean, but are also more environmentally friendly. It is up to you to decide, depending on your habits and priorities. Note that they can be used until one year of age or 11kg.
