What foods should you eat to prepare your skin for the sun?

With the arrival of summer, you’ll likely be inclined to choose recipes that incorporate seasonal fruits and vegetables. What if you took advantage of this by choosing foods that will help prepare your skin for the sun? Let's take a look at ways to fill your fridge with seasonal products that are also good for your skin.

Fresh fruits and vegetables for your skin this summer

If there's one thing you shouldn't miss out on for healthy skin, it's fruits and vegetables. Full of excellent nutrients that will help prepare your skin for the sun and -- prolong your tan. One of our favorites, carrots, rich in beta-carotene, lightly pigments the skin and brighten your complexion. Carrot enthusiasts say that you only need to eat them three times a week to achieve a sun-kissed look all year long! See for yourself with some of our favorite summer recipes like grated carrots, carrot juice, gazpacho... there is no shortage of fresh & fabulous recipes using carrots -- allowing you to diversify your summer meals!

Round and beautiful, tomatoes are your skin's ally in the sun

Let's meet another friend of your skin: the tomato. While you’re used to seeing them on the shelves all year round, summer is undeniably when they’re at their best.  Enjoy this delectable fruit, rich in lycopene and carotenoids, all summer long – and your skin will thank you for it!  These beautiful tomatoes are so good eaten raw in a salad, topped with a drizzle of olive oil, mozzarella and basil, or in bruschetta, spread on a large slice of toast!

For a touch of summer cool, turn to melon!

Summer is also the peak season for delightfully, delicious melon, another favorite to prepare your skin for that just-off-the-beach glow.  From appetizers to desserts, melon will satisfy all your cravings for a fresh and quick meal, every time!  For a classic, tasty recipe, you can of course enjoy it with ham as a starter, or as a light main course. To change it up a bit, consider eating it as a chilled soup on a hot, summer evening. Here’s the recipe:

 For 4 people, you’ll need:

● 2 ripe melons,

● a dash of lemon,

● a few mint leaves

It’s as easy as 1-2-3! Scoop out the melons, place ingredients in a blender, and blend.  After just a few hours in the fridge, your melon soup is ready. The final touch: add a few fresh mint leaves for decoration and... enjoy!  What’s more, apricots, nectarines and peaches are just as delicious and easy to add to summer meals – and also provide protection for your skin.

Fish, a healthy choice for your skin

Let's now leave the wonders of the garden and turn our attention to fish and shellfish. To preserve youthfulness and provide a glowing complexion this summer, choose fatty fish, rich in vitamin A, omega 3 fatty acids, and selenium. Salmon, sardines, herring, mackerel and tuna are all delicious and excellent for your skin. Try them grilled with a dash of lemon for a taste of summer magic. If you like raw fish, tuna and salmon are excellent in sashimi, carpaccio or tartar. Herring can be eaten in a salad with potatoes. Sardine rillettes on toast are simply divine!

And on the dairy side, what foods should you choose for your skin?

Eggs, of course! They’re easy to cook and oh-so versatile – they can be served as hot or cold omelets, scrambled, fried with ham, hard-boiled to liven up salads, or boiled for gourmet breakfasts. It doesn’t matter what preparation you choose, they’re rich in vitamins A and E, and a variety of minerals, including selenium. The only limitation: no more than two eggs per week for those who need to watch their cholesterol levels. Another interesting food for your skin: cottage cheese, rich in calcium and proteins, and excellent for obtaining a nice tan quickly. How about eating it a little differently? How about a smoothie to bring a little variety to your desserts? Here's the recipe.

For 4 people, you’ll need:

● 400g cottage cheese,

● 400g red fruits,

● 4 teaspoons sugar,

● fruit for decoration.

Mix together and garnish with a few slices of fresh fruit. An easy dessert that could become a classic on any summer table!
