Des oeufs de Pâques naturellement marbrés !

Naturally marbled Easter eggs !

At Canopea, we love doing crafts with kids, especially when they are inspired by nature. When I was little, before Easter, my grandmother always prepared hard-boiled eggs for us that we painted with gouache by hand (I'm not sure that it was the most edible and also it often ended upside down!) but we loved participating in the festivities and getting into the Easter spirit. So this year, I decided to make pink and mineral-inspired eggs. So I came across this magical recipe for marbled Easter eggs on the website ohsobeautifulpaper.com, isn't it great? You can try with food coloring if you don't have time... as for us, we'll try with beetroot juice, prepared by us!

Ingredients for the dye:

  • 6 medium sized beets
  • a peeler, a knife, a colander
  • 4 cups of water
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar (more if you want a deep pink)
  • large saucepan

Ingredients for eggs:

  • Hard-boiled eggs (preferably white)
  • Small bowls (for dyeing eggs)
  • Vinegar
  • Vegetable oil
  • Spoon
  • Paper towel

Prepare the dye

Put the water to boil in a saucepan and bring to a boil. While the water is boiling, peel and cut the beets into small pieces. Once the water is ready, immerse the beets and vinegar and simmer for 25-30 minutes / Once cooked, remove the beets with a spoon (or strain) and reserve the beet juice.

Prepare the eggs

1. Take the beet juice and add a splash of vegetable oil (or any other oil you have on hand) while stirring with a spoon. The marbled pattern on your egg will depend on the size of the oil bubbles floating around the water, so for extra marble, feel free to stir the oil.

2. Wearing gloves or using a spoon, dip the egg into the beetroot dye, swirling the mixture around to ensure that the entire surface of the egg is in contact with the oil bubbles. Remove the egg immediately and leave to dry on a sheet of white paper.

We loved making our own marble Easter eggs! I hope you get a chance to make some…
