Where to go on vacation in the Mediterranean?

The Canopea 2022 collection finds its inspiration in the Mediterranean colors. You too may want to take to the open sea, for a change in scenery, without traveling to the other side of the world. How about a Mediterranean trip? Canopea has dropped anchor in three emblematic places around the Mediterranean: Marseille, Catalonia and Morocco!

Marseille, the city of a thousand colors

Our journey begins in Marseille, which still shines with the same radiance after 26 centuries of existence. Its discovery begins with a stroll along the corniche, without forgetting to take a break in the Vallon des Auffes, to discover its charming little fishing port overhung by a viaduct.

Impossible to miss the creeks of Marseille. This series of small creeks, opening on an emerald sea, are among the most beautiful sites in Provence. Between pebble and fine sand beaches, you can't dream of a better place to enjoy the sun, swim, kayak or explore the ocean floor. These paradisiacal places are accessible on foot by the GR 98 and other hiking trails. The other option is to access them by boat, which always guarantees a beautiful discovery!

As far as the city is concerned, Marseille and its heritage have much to seduce you. The emblematic location of the city, situated at the bottom of the Canebière, the Old Port is the meeting point of the inhabitants of Marseille, and also of its visitors. After a short walk on the quays, you can try a mini cruise on a ferryboat. Unless you prefer the joyful atmosphere of the fish market, which takes place here every morning. Marseille still has many surprises in store for you. Don't forget to visit the Panier district, the oldest in the city. You will appreciate its narrow and picturesque streets, its stairs, its colorful facades and its breathtaking view of the Mediterranean Sea.

Catalonia: just a step away, discover all the colors of Spain

In the northeast of Spain, Catalonia extends from the Pyrenees to the shores of the Mediterranean. From the Val d'Aran to the Cap de Creus, the Pyrenees unfold their landscapes over more than 230 km and offer beautiful hikes, between high peaks, valleys, glaciers and natural parks. Catalonia, on the beach side, is the Costa Brava, the Costa Barcelona and the Costa Dorada, a coastline of 580 km and many seaside resorts to enjoy the sea and its pleasures: Salou, Tossa de Mar, Cadaqués, Lloret de Mar or Roses.

You cannot stay in Catalonia without visiting Cadaqués, a gem of the Costa Brava, located near the French border and the Cap de Creus Natural Park. You will be seduced by the intact charm of this village surrounded by mountains. Its church, its small white houses and its narrow streets were a source of inspiration for Salvador Dali. You can visit the painter's house, now a museum.

Catalonia, on the city side, is of course Barcelona, the city that never sleeps, as they say. A young and trendy city par excellence, the Catalan capital also has many museums: the Wax Museum, the Picasso Museum and the Sagrada Familia, an unfinished monument by the architect Antoni Gaudi, emblematic of the city. Another must-see city in Catalonia is Tarragona, whose Roman ruins and ancient amphitheater attract many visitors every year.

To discover the wild Catalonia, head to the south of the region and the Ebro Delta. With its bulls and rice fields, the location feels like the Camargue. It is the ideal place to escape the crowds and enjoy the rich flora and fauna of this 25 km long natural park.

Morocco, detour through the imperial cities

With a great diversity of landscapes, Morocco is a destination that is both close and very exotic. First contact of the traveler arriving by the Mediterranean, the Moroccan Rif is a succession of canyons and green valleys. The Atlantic coast offers a completely different aspect with its large beaches lined with cliffs. For a first trip to Morocco, you can visit the imperial cities of Fez and its medina made up of a maze of 9500 streets, Meknes with its minarets and monumental doors, the coastal city of Essaouira with its white houses with blue shutters, and, of course, Marrakech!

If there was only one place to visit in Morocco, it would obviously be Marrakech. Walking through its medina, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is always an exciting experience for travelers. The souks of Marrakech are the largest in the Maghreb along with those of Essaouira. Basketry, copper, leather goods, babouches..., the incredible diversity of Moroccan craftsmanship is revealed here. Don't hesitate to negotiate the prices, because that's part of the game!

Marrakech instantly evokes the extraordinary garden of the painter Jacques Majorelle, created in 1924 and bought in 1980 by the fashion designer Yves Saint-Laurent and his companion Pierre Bergé. The greenery contrasts with the bright mauve blue, the famous Majorelle blue, of the studio. The place has become a must for any visitor who loves art, couture and local culture.
