Italy is a wonderful destination to experience with your family. Between beautiful landscapes, cultural riches and delicate gastronomy, Italy is a real treat. If you have chosen to set down your suitcases on the shores of Lake Como, discover our recommendations for a dream stay for young and old.
Postcard landscapes
Lake Como is located in Lombardy, just 85 km from Milan. However, it only takes an hour by car to enter another world. Ciao to the big, noisy metropolis and benvenuto to a true haven of peace, between transparent water, picture-postcard hills and dream villas. It is no coincidence that Lake Como (50 km long and 4 km wide) is home to the homes of many stars and billionaires. The best known is certainly George Clooney. The actor, who loves the region, even lives there for part of the year! And there is no doubt that since he welcomed his twins, the actor has rediscovered his adopted region with new eyes. Because yes, the Lake Como region is truly a paradise for children.
Our ideas for activities to do with the family
- Discover the wonders of Lake Como by boat
Embark with your little sailors for an unforgettable boat expedition on the lake. For example, you can sail from Moltrasio to Bellagio and discover the villas bordering the lake, enjoying an exceptional view of the panorama. Another possibility is to rent a motor boat without a license or a kayak to live the adventure only with your tribe.
- Explore the surrounding villages
Lake Como is lined with many picturesque villages that hide architectural treasures and offer the possibility of many walks to do with the family. We particularly recommend a visit to Tremezzina where you can explore the magnificent Villa Carlotta and its museum and then enjoy the tranquility of the botanical garden. For movie lovers, head to the gardens of Villa del Balbianello where many films were shot, including part of Star Wars Episode 2. That should delight your little Jedi!
Another option is to explore the old town of Como, a small, typically Italian town that looks like it came straight out of a novel with its Baroque and Romanesque churches and its famous cathedral. However, children can get tired of cultural visits and it is therefore important to alternate museums and walks for the comfort of the whole family. So why not go and stretch your legs and relax by enjoying an ice cream on the old port of Varenna, for example? If you like medieval castles, don't miss the Vezio Castle which offers a breathtaking view of the lake and houses a falconry. Children will love the bird of prey show!

- Treat yourself to a relaxing break at the beach
On holiday on Lake Como, it is impossible to miss out on swimming. The children put on their Canopea anti-UV swimsuits and off they go for a day of relaxation by the water! There are many beaches and they offer the possibility of a real relaxing break in an idyllic setting. If you prefer pebbles to sand, you will be delighted. Most of the villages around the lake have pebble beaches. They are not very big but the setting is so majestic that you quickly forget the long stretches of fine sand on the coast. We fell in love with the beach at Ulisse Guzzi Park but also those at Mandello di Lario and Dervio.
