Face, body, hair: how to choose your moisturizer?
![]() |
In any season, moisturizing your face and body is an essential step to protect your skin from external aggressions and delay the effects of aging. Your beauty routine would not be complete without thinking about moisturizing your hair, which can quickly become dry and impossible to style. Face, body, hair, which care products should you choose to hydrate yourself properly?
Hydration, appropriate care and a healthy lifestyle
When your skin is dehydrated, it becomes rough and uncomfortable, and small spots can appear. In winter, the cold dries out the skin, which causes redness and tightness. In summer, it is the sun, air conditioning, sea bathing or chlorine from the pool that take over. Attacked in all seasons, your skin knows no respite. This is why it is necessary to moisturize it all year round, and not just in winter, as is sometimes believed. The right reflex is to adopt a moisturizer adapted to your skin type, and to apply it morning and evening. For your toilet, avoid using soaps, which are too stripping. Instead, opt for paraben-free shower gels or syndets (dermatological soap-free bars). A balanced diet, with a sufficient intake of fruits and vegetables (full of water), and the absorption of one and a half liters of water per day will also help you to have beautiful, well-hydrated skin.
How to choose your facial moisturizer?
For the face, moisturizing products come in the form of cream. For your normal skin, a good “classic” moisturizing cream will be perfectly suited. If your skin is dry, creams rich in fatty substances, such as “water in oil” are recommended. If your skin is combination or oily, you will adopt lighter textures, such as “oil in water” to avoid excess sebum and the appearance of pimples. After the age of 30, anti-aging formulas are recommended to prevent sagging skin and the appearance of the first wrinkles.

Body hydration: textures for all skin types
Body moisturizers come in different forms: milk, cream, butter and oil. You will choose them according to your skin type, age and personal tastes. If your skin is normal, body milks will moisturize it properly. Their light texture makes them particularly pleasant to use, because they dry quickly, which allows you to get dressed quickly after application. If you have dry skin, choose creams instead, which are more moisturizing. They are effective, but are a little “sticky”, which is not always very appreciated.
The pleasure of essential oils to hydrate your skin
If you like essential oils, you can choose cosmetics that contain them, of course. You can also mix a few drops of a moisturizing essential oil into your products: hemp essential oil, which protects against free radicals, carrot essential oil, with regenerative properties, patchouli, a healing oil with a delicious scent, or geranium, with antiseptic properties. Since essential oils are very concentrated, never apply them directly to the skin. You risk burning it or seeing photosensitivity spots appear.

Body butters and oils, friends of very dry skin
If your skin is very dry, forget about body milk and cream. Instead, turn to butters (shea and coconut), which will provide comfort and suppleness. Rich in fatty substances, these formulas nourish the skin in depth. Apply by warming a small amount of product in the palm of your hand, which you then apply by massaging to make it penetrate well. Other possibilities for nourishing your very dry skin: body oils. They are effective, but leave a greasy film. To avoid this problem, use dry oils (argan, sweet almond, jojoba) instead, which are dry to the touch and whose properties are identical to classic oils. Practical, these multi-purpose oils can be used for both the body and the hair.
“Natural” recipes to nourish and hydrate dry hair
Hair is also frequently dehydrated. Attacked by the sun and wind or chemical treatments, it loses its suppleness, becomes brittle and split. Many nourishing oils can come to the rescue of your hair: coconut, olive, avocado, sweet almond, argan, etc. Apply them only to the lengths. Then wrap your hair in a warm towel and wait 30 minutes before washing it with a gentle shampoo. If you have an oily scalp, opt instead for jojoba or hazelnut oil. Another beneficial plant to help thirsty hair regain shine and radiance: aloe vera, to be used as a mask, in the form of a gel. As with oils, you leave it on for 30 minutes before doing a gentle shampoo.
